Learning doesn’t have to be a formal event, in fact, it can be done through fun activities and playtime. There are many opportunities to help your child that may already be built into your typical day. Here are some simple ideas to support your child’s learning while keeping it fun!
Set Up a Home Learning Space
Setting up a dedicated area for home learning can help your child get excited for back-to-school time. Include your child in setting up this area by having them select special books and supplies to use. These small touches can help motivate them to learn both at school and at home!

Create a Calendar
A great way to help your child stick to healthy routines is by keeping a calendar of activities that you can do together. You can also plan outings ahead of time, such as trips to the library or park.
Here are some important routines to establish:
- Morning routine: Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and many schools offer free or reduced cost breakfast options.
- After-school routine: Set aside time for homework each day. Your routine might also include after-school programs or sports.
- Bedtime: Rest supports your child’s growing brain. Getting your kids to bed on time can give you some downtime for self-care.
Make Time for Learning
Setting aside time for learning quickly becomes a habit. All it takes is 15-20 minutes each day for your child to retain and strengthen important skills. Make sure to use several different activities to break up time and encourage important brain-building moments.
Back-to-school can be filled with fun. By creating these spaces and routines in the home, you can support your child’s learning all year long!
