My Experience Joining the Board of Directors at Bad Dog Arts

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: I’ve joined the board of Bad Dog Arts, a local nonprofit art studio dedicated to empowering youth in Salt Lake City through creative exploration and hands‑on art education.

Years ago, Co‑Founder Michael Moonbird told me, “You’re going to run a place like this someday.” Those words stayed with me, and they continue to shape the way I show up for this organization and the Utah arts community as a whole.

This opportunity means a great deal to me. The arts shaped the course of my own career, and I know firsthand how transformative creative experiences can be for young people. Serving on the Bad Dog Board allows me to give back to the community that shaped me, and to help ensure that future generations have access to the same spark that changed my life.

Why Bad Dog Arts Matters

Bad Dog Arts provides a supportive, imaginative space where young artists can experiment, grow, and express themselves. Through workshops, mentorship, and community programming, the organization opens doors for students who might not otherwise have the chance to explore their creativity.

One of the most impactful aspects of their work is the commitment to tuition waivers and accessibility. Every student deserves the chance to create, regardless of financial barriers, and that mission aligns deeply with my own values.

Creative Governance

In this new position, I’ll be helping guide strategic decisions, strengthening the organization’s fundraising efforts, and bringing the perspective of a working artist to the table. My goal is to support sustainable growth, expand opportunities for students, and help champion an artistic community that feels welcoming and empowering for everyone.

Looking Ahead

I’m grateful for the chance to take on a leadership role with Bad Dog Arts and continue to contribute to an organization that is doing such meaningful work in Salt Lake City. I can’t wait to collaborate with the Bad Dog Board and help shape programs that make creativity accessible, joyful, and community‑driven.

More updates to come as we dive into new projects and initiatives. For now, I’m simply honored and excited to serve.

xoxo,

Michaela Rae
